Gadag holds a significant place in India’s ancient history, once governed by the Chalukyas. Gadag, formerly a taluka in Dharwad District, gained independent district status on 24 August 1997, alongside its sister city Betageri. Governed by the Gadag-Betigeri Municipal Council, Gadag is located in Northern Karnataka, 80 km from Dharwad and 56 km from Hubli. It lies on the Gutti Vasco National Highway.
